  1. Ricoh FS2 Options

  3. Black and White Options
  4.  
  5. When scanning in black and white, three half toning techniques are
  6. available.  The first, "Threshold", uses the value of the "Threshold"
  7. scroll bar to determine the value of each pixel.
  8.  
  9. The second, "Ordered Dither", uses the "Dither Pattern" shown to
  10. determine the value of each pixel.
  11.  
  12. The third, "Error Diffusion", uses error diffusion to determine the
  13. value of each pixel.
  14.  
  15. In addition to these half toning techniques, the "Greyscale and Black
  16. and White Options" (see below) also determine the value of each pixel.

  18. Greyscale and Black and White Options
  19.  
  20. The "Gamma Type" is the method used to map pixels from the scanner's
  21. input, which has 10 bits per pixel, to the scanner's output, which has
  22. 8 bits per pixel.  Experiment with the different types to determine
  23. which is most appropriate for your particular application.
  24.  
  25. "Brightness" affects how light the image is, and "Contrast" affects
  26. differences between light and dark.
  27.  
  28. Color Options
  29.  
  30. The "Color Options" are identical to the "Greyscale and Black and
  31. White Options", except that there are three sets of "Gamma Type",
  32. "Brightness", and "Contrast" controls, one each for the red, green,
  33. and blue components of the image.
  34.  
  35. If the "Change Colors Together" toggle button is on, then changing
  36. values for one of the colors changes that value for the others as
  37. well.  If the "Change Colors Together" toggle button is off, each
  38. color can be manipulated independently of the others.

  40. The "OK" button tells the scanner driver to use the options specified,
  41. and dismisses the "Ricoh FS2 Options" window.
  42.  
  43. The "Apply" button tells the scanner driver to use the options
  44. specified without dismissing the "Ricoh FS2 Options" window.
  45.  
  46. The "Cancel" button dismisses the "Ricoh FS2 Options" window without
  47. changing the options.
